For this gritty mining and musical extravaganza, Harrogate Dramatic Society joins forces with Harrogate Band to present the stage version of the film starring Pete Poslethwaite, Tara Fitzgerald and Ewan McGregor.

It's the 1990s. Yorkshire miners, still reeling from the damaging pit strikes are now faced with the prospect of the closure of their pits. At Grimley Colliery the choice is stark.Take the money on the table or tough it out. Disillusioned, some think that if their jobs are to go, there's little point in continuing with the colliery brass band.

Except that's not the way the band's conductor sees it. Whatever happens at the pit, his sights are firmly set on the forthcoming National Brass Band Championships at the Royal Albert Hall.

At times hugely funny, at times heart-rending and poignant, Brassed Off is a powerful and inspiring musical tribute to the tenacity of the miners of this county.
