In "Amphityon 38", Harrogate Dramatic Society, after a rather slow start, deal splendidly with the witty and somewhat saucy story of the love of Jupiter for Alkmena, wife of the Theban general, Amphitryon. Based on the old Greek legend and brought up to date by Jean Giraudoux, it provides very unusual entertainment.
The two principal roles of Jupter and Alkmena make big demands and these are more than adequately met by Alan Broadhurst and by Mollie Moorhouse who again gives an example of her great versatility. Iorwerth Roberts (Mercury) and Arthur Dent (Amphitryon) bring a real zest to their parts and contribute largely to the success of this difficult play, which is excellently produced by Eliner Rutherford and is outstanding for lighting effects and costume.
