{"id":359,"date":"2024-01-09T13:00:45","date_gmt":"2024-01-09T13:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thds2.wpcomstaging.com\/?page_id=359"},"modified":"2025-01-15T22:47:47","modified_gmt":"2025-01-15T22:47:47","slug":"how-it-all-started","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.hds-online.co.uk\/?page_id=359","title":{"rendered":"How it all started"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In <strong>March 1946<\/strong>&nbsp;The Society\u2019s first production: \u201cTonight at 8:30\u2033 \u2013 three one-act plays by Noel Coward, was performed at St. Mark\u2019s Church Hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In <strong>October 1946<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cQuiet Wedding\u201d by Esther McCracken was&nbsp;performed at St. Mark\u2019s Church Hall. This was the first three-act play the Society presented; rehearsals were held in members\u2019 houses!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a successful opening in Harrogate, the Society entered \u201cQuiet Wedding\u201d for the first post-war Skipton Drama Festival in 1946 and gained the Amateur Theatre trophy as runner-up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Society subsequently had a long and successful association with the Skipton (later \u2013 the Craven) Drama Festival winning many awards culminating in the outstanding success of \u201cWaters Of The Moon\u201d by N C Hunter in 1978 which won every major award \u2013 The Irving Trophy, The Producer\u2019s Trophy (Joan Mallett), Best Actress (Jacquie Scarborough) and Best Actor (Don Valentine).
