In 1995, Bill Bryson, an American writer from Des Moines, Iowa, published Notes from a Small Island, based on an earlier tour of Britain, followed twenty years later in 2015 by The Road to Little Dribbling. In a national poll the former was voted as the book that best represents Britain.

In his journeys, Bryson brings to light numerous idiotic, endearing, ridiculous and sometimes eccentric incidents as seen through the eyes of an American, which anyone reading the books will easily recognise as our beautiful, magnificent and unique country. Indeed, his acute funny and perceptive insights bring together all that is best and worst about Britain today!
