Remember the so-called Permissive Society? Even if you’re too young to remember it, rest assured you’ll be fully informed after watching Alan Bennett’s hilarious merry-go-round of sexual encounters and mistaken identities set in Brighton in the 1970s.

Meet the irrepressible Wicksteed family and their outrageous friends whose determination to put the satisfactions of the body (or corpus) before all else is their one ruling passion.

Join randy Canon Throbbing, nubile Felicity, Mrs Swabb and Lady Rumpers and the rest as they move – and dance – through a hotchpotch of farcical frolics and sexy silliness. To get a flavour of the play, listen to Arthur Wicksteed whose closing remark goes: “He whose lust lasts, lasts longest”.

Alan Bennett was born in 1934 and has had string of hugely successful plays, among them The History Boys, Enjoy, and The Lady in the Van. Habeas Corpus however was his first play – and is as saucy and as English as a seaside postcard.
